What watches can use Google Wallet? Here is our list

One of the biggest attractions of owning a smartwatch is the ability to make contactless payments anywhere that allows. So which Wear OS watches use Google Wallet and contactless payments? Here is an updated list of smartwatches that can use Google Wallet.

Google Wallet – What does the watch need to use?

Google Wallet has become a staple among the Android Wear OS watches on the market. Even on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch series, I prefer using Google Wallet over Samsung Pay, just because it’s simple and syncs well with my device and my watch.

Google Wallet – formerly Google Pay – is also easy to activate, and after you do that, it loads very quickly. This proves to be a strong point when you need to quickly draw your cards with a quick double tap of the home key. With the move to Google Wallet from Pay, this feature crashed and was left disabled for some devices, although this issue has since been fixed.

Device requirements for using Google Wallet on smartwatches are simple. The watch needs to be running Wear OS 2.0 or higher and have NFC capabilities. Without the latter, there is no way for your watch to communicate with any payment terminal. Since Samsung’s Galaxy Watch line runs a version of Wear OS, these devices are fully capable of touchless Google Payments, as long as they’re NFC-enabled. Another condition that you should be aware of is the availability of Google Wallet in your area. While many benefit from the app, there are a few where Google Wallet is not available.

With these two requirements, it’s easy to narrow down the hours that can use Google Wallet for contactless payments. Here is a list of some smartwatches that meet the requirements:

  • Montblanc Summit Light
  • Montblanc Summit 2
  • Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra
  • Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS
  • Mobvoi TicWatch E3
  • Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3
  • Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 4G
  • Mobvoi TicWatch E2
  • Mobvoi TicWatch S2
  • Mobvoi TicWatch C2.0

Watches that are not yet released or will eventually have Google Wallet support are flagged as such. The Pixel Watch hasn’t been fully announced yet, although we’re sure the Google-made device will power Google Wallet in some form.

Do any other watches support Google Wallet?

It was recently announced that the Fitbit Versa 4 and Sense 2 will see Google Wallet compatibility “soon,” even though the devices aren’t running Wear OS. This makes these smartwatches among the first to run Google Wallet outside of the operating system. Before that, Fitbit devices were loaded with Fitbit Pay, which uses NFC on board smartwatches, similar to Google Wallet.

From now on, most Wear OS devices will likely be able to handle Google Wallet. Wearables like the ones from Fitbit are in a special category because Google owns the company, which means seeing Google Wallet on non-Wear OS devices is unlikely.
