Up Ahead is a polished new countdown timer app with widgets for the iPhone

Countdown apps for iPhone can be very motivating. Counting down the days until your next vacation can help you persevere through the weeks leading up to it. However, not all apps for tracking days before the event are created equal.

iPhone countdown apps

The basics of an acceptable countdown app include two things:

  • High-level view of the number of days until the event occurs
  • Home screen support widget (and now lock screen widget)

For Apple Watch users, watchOS support is also great for putting a countdown timer on your watch face.

Overall, another essential element of countdown apps is not very easy on the eyes. It is definitely a category in which function has dominated form. A new entry in the field of such applications breaks this trend.

New hope

Up Ahead is a countdown timer app for people who love cute things. As someone who defines themselves as someone who loves cute things, I can say Up Ahead lives up to its promise.

The app has an ergonomic design with a lot of customization. The upcoming event boxes are clearly laid out linearly with a clear display of the amount of time before each begins. There’s even a clever twist on the countdown display. Up Ahead not only displays the number of days before each event, but also the number of days between All happened.

Dan Gauthier, developer of Up Ahead wrote: Product Hunt. “It encourages you to create a calendar of good things to peruse, rather than just a one-off countdown.”

We can all use a good calendar to keep track of our lives. As a tester of countdown apps from time to time, I consider the Up Ahead approach to problem solving a thoughtful and fun one.

Although there is no Apple Watch app in version 1.0, Up Ahead is ready for iOS 16 and iPhone 14 Pro right out of the gate. The app includes multiple home screen options and lock screen widgets that look great on your new always-on screen.

Carefully crafted

Lots of iPhone countdown apps are short-lived projects that are frozen on time and never receive features for new iPhone and iOS upgrades.

Up Ahead is not meant to be a one-time app release with one set of features that never gets updated. There is a dedicated button at the top of the app to learn about the latest features. (The entire app is new in version 1.0).

Even before the iPhone app counts down

Up Ahead is free to use for up to three upcoming events with both types of iPhone gadgets. App support unlocks unlimited events, widgets, additional features, icons, alternative themes, and more. It’s also a vote of confidence for Up Ahead and its future as an app. Up Ahead Plus, as it’s called, is flexible with pricing as low as $1.49 a month, $9.99 a year, or $29.99 as a one-time payment.

It’s great to see the launch of a great new countdown timer app on iPhone, and we’re counting down the days until the first Up Ahead update.
