Huawei will launch the world's first commercial triple-screen foldable phone next week, called the Mate XT. We've seen leaked images of the Mate XT, but Huawei recently released the first official video of the model, revealing part of the device's design.
The video, uploaded to Huawei's Weibo account, shows the back of the Mate XT folded and unfolded. The clip also confirms the triple-folding dual-screen design, allowing for a larger foldable display.
Some other details from the video include a quad rear camera system with a periscope lens, a faux leather back, and a relatively slim design for a device that can fold in half.
Leaks suggest that the Mate XT will feature a 10-inch foldable display and a Kirin 5G chipset. There are still a lot of unknowns at the moment, including battery capacity, camera details, and durability. Additionally, it is unclear whether Huawei will sell the device in markets other than China.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu described the Mate XT as the company's most innovative and groundbreaking product, the result of five years of research and development. “This is a product that others may have imagined but never managed to bring to fruition. We’ve turned science fiction into reality. Wait to see Huawei’s amazing work!”
The Mate XT will be officially launched by Huawei at 1:30 PM on September 10 (Vietnam time). Just about 12 hours before that, Apple will also hold its “It’s Glowtime” event to announce the new iPhone 16 series. Launching the Mate XT at the same time as Apple shows that Huawei is very confident in the appeal of its product.
