“Honestly, I don’t understand Cricket Australia’s comment because we didn’t have to have a serious discussion about their selection. His selection was clear: he was in the team.”
Clarke said the matter would be raised with Cricket NSW chief executive Lee Hermon.
“I will ask Lee Hermon from Cricket NSW to clarify that, perhaps by writing to Cricket Australia and putting on my board member hat because we don’t understand that,” he said. They tell us what to do and what appears in the press is the opposite. They don’t make any sense. Or are we, as chosen ones, wrong, wrong? But I will be very clear because I have reports that Adam Zampa should be in the team and there is no point in discussing his selection.
Cricket for New South Wales Greg Miley and Australian chief selector George Bailey spoke about Zampa’s inclusion ahead of the Sheffield Shield match. According to CNSW, Zampa is in the squad selected for the tour of Sri Lanka.
Had Zampa not been selected to play against Tasmania, he would have been named in the premiership squad to play against India in Canberra. The first day of play concluded at Manuka Oval on Saturday and the teams will play one-day matches on Sunday.
Having made just six first-class appearances since late 2017, Zampa is not guaranteed to play another red-ball match for NSW this season. The decision will be made early next week after consultations between Zampa, CNSW and CA.

“If he wants to be part of the four-day game, maybe he should be there and come and train and play a bit of cricket and things like that,” Clarke said. “He is a good player and there is no reason why he cannot succeed.”
Ed Cowan, a NSW board member and former Test opener, said this week he did not like the selection, while Brad Haddin and Alyssa Healy were upset about it.
“It’s hard to answer. I can see why they went that route… but you’re a little bitter. [out of] “In blue,” Healy said. Willow Talk Podcast.
Haddin added: “I like Adam Zampa… but I don’t think he should be playing this Shield game. He’s not coming to training, he’s not part of the NSW system. I think that sends a bad message to our young players in the squad.”
“A week ago he came out and said he wasn’t going to train with NSW. Part of being in the team is helping the people around you improve and he’s a fantastic player. I think NSW has really lowered their standards.”
Taylor also opposed the decision.
“I think it was a very poor choice… it clearly is [Zampa] “He doesn’t want to play first-class cricket,” Taylor said.
