With so many mutants in the Marvel universe, American fans of X-Men You may have wondered how their country is best represented. It’s hard to pick just 50 out of the hundreds, if not thousands of mutants who have fought alongside Charles Xavier to properly represent each nation. But Screen Rant has gone through the history of the X-Men, and there are too many factions to choose the best possible mutant for each one.
Whether they were chosen for their birth state, a notable event involving a mutant or given an environment suitable for their powers, Screen Rant has assigned each state the best X-Men hero most suited to each region.
Some X-Men are perfect for their home states
some heroes in X-Men Franchise is intrinsically linked to where they were born, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else taking their place. There is no doubt that the X-Men Southern Belle Rogue deserves to represent their home state of Mississippi. In the same vein, the card-carrying Southern Gambit is the only hero imaginable to be the face of Louisiana. Jubilation Lee aka the bubbling, high-energy Jubilee hails from the East Coast and is California’s favorite mutant. Not only was Professor X born in New York, he founded the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, making him the only choice to represent the Empire State. Speaking of the Northeastern states, Emma Frost gets to be right about her birthplace in Massachusetts. And when it comes to Illinois, sweet Henry “Beast” McCoy will represent his old turf.
While not every A-List X-Men hero comes from every corner of the United States, there are still a number of mutants with origins in several states. For example, Laurie Collins, also known as Wallflower, was born in Kent, Connecticut, and the bird’s beak was among the few mutants that appeared in Chevrely, Maryland. Alexander Summers may be the brother of the X-Men Cyclops, but Havoc was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Speaking of Cyclops, he may have ties to Alaska, but the future mutant leader spent much of his formative years in Nebraska in a group home. Cannonball comes from Bluegrass State to represent Kentucky, and New Mexico gets the X-Men champion from the double man himself, Madrox. New Jersey is appropriately given its local hero Jersey Devil, while West Virginia gets the mysterious mutant known as Crystal. For North and South Carolina, coastal states get Destiny and Matthew Malloy, respectively.
Other mutants have other connections to some countries
These aren’t the only countries that some of the iconic characters from the X-Men are associated with. The troubled New Mutants Squad member, aka Weather, is one of the few mutants from Georgia. The Florida Sunshine should consider itself lucky (or unlucky depending on the point of view) to be the home of dominoes. Everything is bigger in Texas and even extends to Blob’s wide frame. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado have the privilege of being represented by the local mutant mirage while the most famous mutant to come out of Oklahoma is the Firefist. The character of the X-Men may not be in imitation since, but Madame Web is an absolutely mutant character and a great hero to be the face of Oregon. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Pennsylvania, which is the home of the cold and calculating Sebastian Shaw. Rounding out the states with local X-Men are Arizona, Nevada, and Missouri, which are home to the X-Men Warpath, Desert Ghost, and Synch, respectively.
Unfortunately, not every state has a mutant, good or otherwise, in its name. But that doesn’t mean there are no other reasons why X-Men characters can’t represent those places. For example, Wisconsin was home to the Great Lakes Avengers, whose membership briefly included a Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Asp was once set in Delaware thanks to the Avengers 50-State initiative. Talking about the initiative, a gimmick similar to United States of America Scarlet Witch made Maine’s Avenger, while her brother Quicksilver was set in Virginia. Boom Boom was not born there, but attended school in New Hampshire. And even though it’s technically his parents who reside in Washington, he provides a small connection to Angel. The mutant menace Cyber was put on trial for murder in Iowa, and Mutant Liberation Front leader Stryfe headed a compound based in Arkansas.
Other nations needed a little help with their hero
The X-Men mutants are indeed numerous, but there are some that don’t have any kind of connection to a character in the Marvel Pantheon. However, there’s no reason why the remaining states wouldn’t have an X-Men character of their own. For example, the University of Michigan football team is the Wolverines, which is as good a reason as any for Logan to represent Great Lakes State. Speaking of teams, Tennessee is home to the Nashville Predators, so why not give that a go to Logan’s recurring foe Sabretooth? It’s all about Alabama college football with the Crimson Tide, and Omega Red, another Wolverine villain, is equally red and intimidating. Admittedly, some of the X-Men might not quite fit their status, but with Vermont being the home of Ben and Jerry’s, why not Soft Serve? Same for the Aurora matching the speeds found in the Indiana Indy 500.
some countries an act They have nicknames that indicate the most suitable mutant for them. Rhode Island is an ocean state, which makes Namur a decent option. Same for Minnesota, North Star State (which gets North Star, obviously). Dakota is represented by the Rockslide that covers the state of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and the Flickertail State of North Dakota that gets the mutant hero Squirrel Girl. Juggernaut’s Crimson Gem of Cyttorak gets The Gem State of Idaho while friendly Kitty Pryde gets the Equality State of Wyoming. And for lack of a true bee-inspired mutant, the insect-like Tempest is the beehive’s choice in Utah. Geography helps round out the state’s list, such as Kansas receiving a storm due to the high concentration of wild weather in the area. Montana’s state animal is the grizzly bear, who earns the mutated Grizzly personality as an X-Men. Thanks to Ohio being the home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the champ singer Dazzler got, while Iceman Bobby Drake got Alaska for his tolerance of icy temperatures.
It’s hard to pinpoint the right trans for each state, but no matter where a fan is in the US, there’s at least one X-Men A character that fits their area in some capacity.
