It emerged this week that Sony will soon be eliminating access to purchased TV shows and movies by removing them from the PlayStation Store. The removals will affect PlayStation owners across Austria and Germany in accordance with legal documents posted on regional sites and the cover films they produce. StudioCanal.
Unfortunately in this day and age, we expect movies and TV shows to be removed from the streaming services we have subscribed to. But removing individual films, box sets and purchased shows as a step in a different direction. Sony explains more on the official PlayStation website.
Sony removes purchased PlayStation movies from user accounts
“From August 31, 2022, due to evolving licensing agreements with content providers, you will no longer be able to view previously purchased Studio Canal content and it will be removed from your video library. We greatly appreciate your continued support. Thank you very much PlayStation Store.”
The affected films and TV shows include 314 films in Germany and 137 films in Austria, and Sony has not yet confirmed whether refunds will be offered to customers who gave up their hard cash to purchase these films and shows previously.
