SMT has unveiled a new data center SSD lineup

SMART Modular Technologies This week it introduced a new family of SSD storage solutions that deliver energy-efficient SSD storage drives for the data center in the form of the DC4800 PCIe Gen 4 family. SMART DC4800 Solid State Drive Storage is specifically designed with a hardware-accelerated SSD controller that consumes less power without compromising storage input/output (I/O) performance.

The company explains that zero-throttling allows these SSDs to perform better under constant duress, even when they’re pushed to their performance limit. This translates to a significant improvement in power consumption per server, as well as consistent latency performance of up to 7 nines or 99.99999% of the time.Write the press release.

“Today’s leading servers are not only expected to manage a wide range of transactions to enable processes such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, but they are also expected to be more energy efficient,” said Andy Mills, Data. SMART Center Engineer. “Data centers are increasingly challenged by performance and power requirements as they expand to handle new workloads that process data from an ever-growing array of smart devices at the edge.”

The DC4800 family of PCIe Gen 4 data center class drives comply with the Open Compute Project (OCP) 1.0 NVMe storage standard, are available in capacities up to 7.68TB and are available in U.2 and E1.S form factors. Initial sampling is already in process with several OEMs and system builders.”
