IKEA Symfonisk Picture Frame Review: Art is in the ear of the beholder

IKEA Symfonisk Picture Frame Review: Art is in the ear of the beholder

For a while it seemed like IKEA and Sonos' Symfonisk collaboration had stalled, but the new Symfonisk Picture Frame is a reminder that, much like artwork, unusual tech can take time to create. Packaging a connected Sonos speaker into a piece of wall art, it bypasses the traditional aesthetic associated with home audio for something that - depending on your decor - will either be more or less surreptitious than anything else from Sonos' line-up.

XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector Review – Smart Entertainment

XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector Review – Smart Entertainment

COVID-19 countermeasures last year has seen a surge in purchases of consumer electronics and home entertainment products, from laptops to gaming console to large TVs. Not everyone, however, might have the luxury of a large living room or large area to set up such a TV or, perhaps, they value flexibility and portability just as much as picture quality. Fortunately, consumers today don't have to make a choice between the two and opt for something like the new XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector that adds just a pinch of smartness to take away the drudgery of having to set up and position the projector perfectly every time you move it around.

Roku Express 4K+ Review: $40 of TV simplicity

Roku Express 4K+ Review: $40 of TV simplicity

For the cost of the monthly subscription to a handful of streaming services, the new Roku Express 4K+ makes a strong platform play for being your set-top box of choice. As always, Roku's pitch is flexibility and user-friendliness, only this time with a picture quality and system speed upgrade plus a handy voice remote. At $39.99, though, what's left out is just as key as what makes the cut, and that's before the challenge of getting every streaming provider to support all of your fancy new features.

Sonos Roam Review – A portable speaker to get you hooked

Sonos Roam Review – A portable speaker to get you hooked

Sonos needs a gateway for new users, and the Sonos Roam is its answer. What looks like a regular Bluetooth speaker actually hides double the functionality: a portable speaker when you're on the go, a full-fledged Sonos speaker around the house, and all wrapped up in a ruggedized housing and the company's lowest price for a new speaker so far.

Sonos Architectural Review: The surprises of pro-installation

Sonos Architectural Review: The surprises of pro-installation

Sonos may be best known for its standalone connected speakers, but its built-in speaker range, Sonos Architectural, is gaining traction in a space still fairly unfamiliar to mainstream users. Professional installation isn't new, but there are still preconceptions about just how attainable it is, with assumptions that it's reserved for multi-million dollar mansions with similarly lavish budgets. When I set out to give a home theater system a Sonos Architectural upgrade, though, I discovered some big surprises along the way.

Vizio M-Series 5.1 Soundbar review: Good sound at a solid price

Vizio M-Series 5.1 Soundbar review: Good sound at a solid price

I don’t think it’s controversial to say that watching movies at home can be something of a nightmare when it comes to audio. Back when I was using only my TV speakers, it always seemed like the audio balance was very off - scenes that were primarily dialogue would be whisper quiet while action scenes would be blaringly loud. So, I set out to fix that issue by getting myself a soundbar, which did help quite a bit but didn’t solve it entirely. The quest to fix this issue permanently seems to lie with multi-speaker/surround sound setups, so I was hopeful that Vizio’s new M-Series 5.1 Home Theater Soundbar would do the trick.

Sonos Arc Review: Dolby Atmos in the soundbar we’ve been waiting for

Sonos Arc Review: Dolby Atmos in the soundbar we’ve been waiting for

The problem with making things look easy, Sonos has discovered, is that peoples' wish-lists only ever get longer. The new Sonos Arc is a textbook example: on the face of it a simple response to the question "Where's the Sonos Dolby Atmos soundbar?" it nonetheless required a whole new platform and, as a side-effect, leaving some of the company's earliest adopters peeved. When you're responsible for that sort of disruption, you have to live up to the hype.

Review: TiVo Edge DVR with voice remote control

Review: TiVo Edge DVR with voice remote control

Earlier this year, TiVo introduced its new Edge DVR, a model featuring a new angular design and the same type of thick remote control included with the older Bolt DVR model. The new Edge DVR packs a large number of features, combining live television with popular streaming apps and enough storage for hundreds of hours of high-definition TV. Does the Edge keep TiVo relevant in a world where people are increasingly ditching cable? The answer is complicated.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian AT-ST Raider LEGO Review

The LEGO Star Wars set 75254 "AT-ST Raider" rolls with one of the most epic-looking pieces of hardware in The Mandalorian. This set contains four minifigures and a rather mixed-up looking All Terrain Scount Transport (AT-ST), the likes of which we've only ever really seen looking a lot more... completely flat metal gray. Now it's got parts in red, with stripes, and all sorts of oddities.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV (2019) Review: Android TV meets AI upscaling magic

For something intended to be hidden out of sight, the NVIDIA SHIELD TV (2019) sure is a funny shape. Then again, after four years solidifying its reputation as the go-to Android TV box, perhaps NVIDIA's brand new SHIELD TV is allowed to step outside the lines a little. One thing's for sure: with a new AI-powered upscaler, lower sticker price, and brand new remote, there's more to this 2019 model than just a fresh shape.
