2022 Audi RS e-tron GT Review

2022 Audi RS e-tron GT Review

It seems a long time since I was lucky enough to get a first crack of the Audi e-tron GT about three years ago. At that point the sleek four-door EV was still a prototype, though even then its focus was fairly clear. While Audi's high-performance electric grand tourer may be the mechanical twin of the Porsche Taycan, here that all drives to a different tune. Porsche touts the Taycan as a four-door all-electric sportscar, as close right now to a four-seater electric 911 that you can get. Audi's e-tron GT, meanwhile, is a genuine grand tourer, albeit one with the same propensity for speed as the Taycan.

2021 Lexus LX 570 Review

2021 Lexus LX 570 Review

The idea of a "luxury off-roader" isn't quite so strange now, as it was when Lexus first launched the LX series in 1995. These days, lavish SUVs are par for the course, and if you're an automaker without one in the line-up then you're missing out on the meat of the market. People can't get enough of the upright driving position and all that burly, "I can go anywhere" styling.

2021 Karma GS-6 Review

2021 Karma GS-6 Review

After a week with the Karma GS-6, the surprise wasn't that nobody knew what the plug-in hybrid was, it was just how much I liked it. While the design may be ten years old now, rarity on the roads - and a convoluted back story - means plenty of head-scratching when you try to explain just what this swooping sedan is. Then factor in the fairly unusual plug-in hybrid drivetrain, and the dramatic drop in price earlier this year.

2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime Review

2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime Review

It's probably fair to say that Toyota put hybrids on the map. The Prius defined the category, came to resemble every stereotype of a "green" car (and, for that matter, of your next Uber or Lyft), and for many has been a first taste of electrification. What's odd, then, is that it's taken until now - and the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime - for the automaker to get around to making a compelling plug-in hybrid.

This $465,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is an unexpected lesson in simplicity

This $465,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is an unexpected lesson in simplicity

Of all the things I expected from the 2021 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge - an SUV with a near half-million-dollar price tag - a reminder of the value of simplicity was not among them. Launched in 2018, the Cullinan is as luxurious, as excessive, and as attention-grabbing as you'd think, particularly in Black Badge form. Look beyond the glitter, though, and there's something more important there too.

2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali Review: The Recipe Works

2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali Review: The Recipe Works

GMC is on a roll right now, and Denali is a big reason for that. The luxury sub-brand - success elevating it from being anything so pedestrian as a mere trim - has helped make SUVs like the 2021 GMC Yukon XL Denali so popular, dealers can't even get them in through the door before they're already sold.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Review: 3-row SUV is family-friendly

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Review: 3-row SUV is family-friendly

Nissan's SUVs are going through a renaissance, and the 2022 Pathfinder is next in line to get a family-friendly upgrade. More distinctive styling, a more upscale cabin, and a welcome injection of safety features and technology help the Pathfinder rediscover its way in the competitive 3-row segment, though that's not to say Nissan has no room for improvement.

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Review: Hybrid Head-Scratcher

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Review: Hybrid Head-Scratcher

The 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the plug-in hybrid SUV people keep forgetting about. After a week behind the wheel, though, it turns out to be oddly memorable - though not necessarily for all the reasons Mitsubishi might hope for. Aggressive pricing and a loaded spec sheet butt up against some questionable hardware and design decisions, leaving this one of the more idiosyncratic hybrids out there.

2021 Mazda6 Carbon Edition Review: Goodbyes are never easy

2021 Mazda6 Carbon Edition Review: Goodbyes are never easy

The market has spoken, and the 2021 Mazda6 must shoulder the consequences. This third-generation sedan has been around since 2012, but familiarity has hardly dulled its handsome styling. Graceful curves and tasteful applications of chrome combine with excellent 19-inch alloy wheels on this Carbon Edition model; there's not really a bad angle, which is more than you can say for a lot of the sedan competition out there.

2021 Lexus GX 460 Review: A very particular set of skills

2021 Lexus GX 460 Review: A very particular set of skills

The word "stalwart" seems like it was made for the 2021 Lexus GX 460. In production since 2009, and only relatively lightly massaged since then, the big SUV's resilience to replacement is a reminder that - for some applications - newer needn't always mean better. If you occupy the center-spot of a niche Venn diagram combining proper off-roading, luxury, and bigger groups, the GX could find itself on your (very short) shortlist.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Review: The Self-Confident SUV

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Review: The Self-Confident SUV

Sometimes it can feel like there aren't any "regular" Mercedes-Benz out there. Plenty of AMG versions, or cars dressed up to look like they're AMG's handiwork, and even the odd Maybach for the luxe-chasers, but a standard, stolid car with the three-pointed star? That's the real rarity, it seems.

2021 Volkswagen Jetta Review: Sober Value

2021 Volkswagen Jetta Review: Sober Value

Volkswagen would probably call the 2021 Jetta "pragmatic," and rationality certainly is the name of the game for one of the most affordable cars on the market right now. A mainstay of the compact sedan segment since 1979, the Jetta always promised a balance between the playful Golf and the grown-up Passat. These days, though, the Jetta may have matured a little too far.
