Samsung has recently been working with device updates for a number of phones. The October 2022 security update is rolling out to a number of Samsung Galaxy phones and even some tablets.
Samsung October 2022 Security Update – Here’s What’s New:
No details were released regarding the latest Android security update bulletin, but we expect that to change over the coming days as Pixel devices catch up — usually on the first Monday of the month. Samsung has updated its tracker for Galaxy smartphones, with a number of important fixes for common issues that may affect device users.
The Korean tech giant lists fixes for one “critical” vulnerability, with an additional 31 fixes for issues with “high” priority. Only two “moderate” issues were resolved with the October patch for Samsung Galaxy phones this time around.
Along with Google patches, Samsung Mobile provides 18 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposure Items (SVEs) described below, in order to improve our customers’ confidence in the security of Samsung Mobile devices. Samsung Security Index (SSI), located in the Security Software Version, SMR Oct-2022 Version 1 includes all patches from Samsung and Google. Some SVE items may not be included in this package, if they were already included in a previous maintenance release.
Some Samsung Galaxy devices are part of the One UI 5.0 beta program, which means Android 13 firmware should be around the corner.
Devices with the Samsung October 2022 Security Update
As is often the case, the Korean tech giant has a fairly consistent approach to updates. The latest and greatest Galaxy devices like the S series usually get updated first. While this is not always the case, it appears to be true.
This list will include a note on where the update first appeared and if it’s also available in the US. As usual, the latest additions will be highlighted in bold.
Galaxy S series
It should come as no surprise at all that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series was the first to receive the October 2022 security update. Being Samsung’s flagship non-foldable smartphone, it was expected and likely to be expected. At the end of September, Samsung released the latest security patch for the S22 series in limited regions. The update is likely to happen in more regions as we get into October.
Only a few days later, the update of the closed versions of the Galaxy S21 series began. The October 2022 security patch has already hit Verizon phones in the US. The latest patches often hit global markets, so this is a nice change of pace. Those on Xfinity Mobile are also starting to see the Samsung October update on the entire Galaxy S21 series according to SamMobile. Unlocked US models are now eligible for the security update that has begun to appear.
Although technically part of the S21 series, the Galaxy S21 FE was launched just a month before the S22. This means that he is in the strange position of being part of the 2022 group while still having a foot in the previous generation. However, it is still promptly updated with Indian models now starting to get the latest version with the range expanding to Verizon models unlocked in the US. European owners can now get an update too as the rollout has again expanded to Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Netherlands and UK
The original Fan Edition Galaxy S20 FE 5G is updated in select markets after rolling out in swathes of continental Europe including Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Nordic countries, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the Baltic region, Czech Republic, Netherlands, and United Kingdom .
A 4G-only limited edition of the Galaxy S20 FE is available in some markets around the world. It’s virtually the same device as a 5G capable model, but it lacks the ability to connect and use ultra-fast 5G networks in areas where saturation is low. The October security update is now rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S20 FE units in Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Galaxy Fold series
Foldable devices are a growing part of the smartphone space and it’s one area where Samsung really, well, dominates. The Galaxy Fold is, in many ways, the spiritual and natural successor to the discontinued Note series. Samsung’s most popular release is the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which includes the highest processor and a lot of improvements.
The original Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G update started in the UK, with the second generation Galaxy Z Fold 2 rolling out the October update in a number of markets in continental Europe including Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Southeast Europe, the Czech Republic and the Baltic region. Since the initial rollout, those with unlocked Verizon models in the US can now update their second-generation Z Fold devices to the latest version.
The upcoming 2021 foldable Galaxy Z Fold 3 is, somewhat coincidentally, the third Galaxy Fold phone to be updated with the latest security patch. The patch is trending simultaneously in India and the US for unlocked models. While the internals are identical, the firmware designs are slightly different here.
The update to Samsung’s latest foldable version has started with the latest October 2022 security patch. The rollout has started in Israel first, and the extended build seeding is expected to be rolled out very soon.

Galaxy Note series
The final Galaxy Note series devices were released back in 2020, with Samsung confirming that the Note is indeed dead. Since then, we’ve seen the Galaxy S range bring specific functions like the S Pen and more to the market, but that probably won’t be enough for true Note series fans. Fortunately, a number of devices are still supported including the Galaxy Note 20, which will get the latest version in due course.
Before the release of the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite. The latter offers the features and functionality of the Note series but without the high price tag associated with it. As such, he is in an odd position in the broader lineup. Samsung is still providing updates, with the Note 10 Lite now getting the October 2022 security patch in select regions.

Galaxy A series
Not all Samsung smartphones are flagship models. There are a number of affordable cell phones that make use of a number of high-end features without breaking the bank. The Galaxy A series is one such example.
One of the cheapest examples is the Galaxy A02, which is now receiving the October update directly from Samsung in select regions. Released in January 2021, it’s modest, to say the least with a 720p screen, dual primary camera system, plus a sub-$150 price tag. Galaxy A02 owners in Central and South America regions including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Colombia should be able to get the latest patch.
Another excellent and impressive device from the Galaxy A series is the A52. It belies its price, with its impressive 120Hz AMOLED display, quad camera system, and regular security updates. The latest is available in select regions including Russia.
The Galaxy A53 is one of the most impressive A-series devices out there. It comes with powerful specs and a 5-year upgrade plan for under $400. This affordable device is getting its latest October release in vast parts of Europe including Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Poland, Czech Republic, France, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

How to check for the latest OTA on your Galaxy device
If your Samsung device has already been updated, but the October patch did not reach you in person, you can try to update manually. Simply open the Settings app, tap Software Update, and choose Download and Install.
