Samsung adds Android 13 icons in the latest beta

With an official release looking like it will be due in the not too distant future, Samsung has released a third beta build of Android 13 that improves animations, adds support for themed icons, and more.

Samsung’s latest Android 13 beta in the Galaxy S22 rolled out in the US and a few other regions today, and it bears a build number ending in ZVI9. The update weighs in at just over 1GB.

what’s new? In the official Samsung changelog, there is a list of tweaks and bug fixes.

The Gallery app gets a revamped ‘Immersive Slideshow’ view of Stories, which is automatically generated by the app from the photos you’ve taken. There is also a new gallery widget for the home screen.

Another notable change comes with the wallpaper settings, where you can now change the wallpaper of the lock screen From Lock screen, simply by long press. Related to that, Samsung has also adopted Android 13 support for themed icons on third-party apps, with select Google apps, first-party apps from Samsung, and supported third-party apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and more. Previously, Samsung only supported themed icons in its own apps.

The other thing you might notice in this update is better animations in general. Samsung’s latest Android 13 release addresses animation issues such as minimal lag when returning to the home screen, as well as some animations that interfere with a close folder on the home screen. In our limited testing, it feels a little faster and faster.

Samsung has also released the beta version of Android 13 on the Galaxy S21, and it’s likely to bring the update to foldable devices at some point.
