Microsoft announced the release of Version 1.0 from her Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) and in the process confirmed that it is no longer just a preview version but is ready for official use by Windows users. For those who are not familiar with the Windows subsystem for Android, it was created to enable Windows 11 users to run Android apps. Brad Linder of Liliputing’s website explains more about its functionality:
“Despite the fact that WSA has moved to version 1.0, there are still some Android features that don’t work at all on Windows 11: no gadget support or picture-in-picture video. Apps that require DRM hardware don’t work. You also can’t use USB or Bluetooth accessories with Android apps on Windows PCs yet. Microsoft hasn’t enabled backup or restore file transfer support yet.”

But the company says it’s working on at least a few of those things: File transfer and picture-in-picture support are in the product roadmap, as is the WSA upgrade to Android 13. Microsoft has also just pushed a new build from WSA to Windows Insiders showing improvements For the camera, clipboard, graphics, and multi-threaded performance, among other things. Just because there is a “stable” build doesn’t mean that Microsoft is still offering preview releases to beta testers and development channels.”
