FIFA 23 cover

EA Sports has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr will both be the cover stars of the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition.

Sam Kerr will become the first female footballer to play the lead in a FIFA match outside North America and Australia. Kerr finished third in the 2021 Women’s Ballon d’Or, while also taking home the Golden Boot in the Women’s Super League in the previous two seasons.

Mbappe has been the top scorer in Ligue 1 in four of the past five seasons. He recently signed a lucrative new contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, despite the interest of Champions League-winning Real Madrid.

Play

The biggest new feature of FIFA 23 is the inclusion of women’s club football. Barkley’s FA Women’s Football League and Division 1 Arkema will both appear for the first time. We assume that this means that you will be able to take charge of a women’s soccer club in Career mode, although this has not yet been confirmed.

EA has revealed that it will provide post-launch content for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 at no additional cost.

FIFA 23 will see women's football clubs added to the game

EA is also ramping up its new HyperMotion2 technology (not available on PS4 and Xbox One), which will apparently be able to render more than 6000 “realistic” football animations. The company has also teased a new risk-reward shot mechanic, updated kicks/free kicks/angles, as well as more realistic physics.

Ultimate Team will of course return, this time with a revamped Chemistry system, while Career Mode will offer a “new way to play your season with ‘Highlights Playable'”. Pro Clubs and Volta Football will also be playable.

EA promised to provide more information about the new gameplay on July 27, before feeding us additional details regarding the different game modes throughout August. We will make sure to update this article with all the new information, so keep this page bookmarked to learn more about FIFA 23.
