We're supposed to see the iPhone 16 unveiled in about a month, and leaks are starting to pile up about Apple's 2024 flagship — including new information about the battery capacity of the Pro and Pro Max models.
According to popular leaker Instant Digital (via MacRumors), the iPhone 16 Pro will come with a 3,577mAh battery, while the battery inside the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a capacity of 4,676mAh.
To put these numbers into context, the iPhone 15 Pro has a 3,274mAh battery, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 4,422mAh battery. It looks like both models will get bigger batteries this year, but the difference is bigger on the Pro model.
We heard the same 4,676mAh capacity for the iPhone 16 Pro Max in a previous leak, though a previous rumor put the iPhone 16 Pro's capacity at 3,355mAh – so this latest source suggests the increase in size will be even larger.
Better battery life?
Of course, it's entirely possible that battery capacity has changed as Apple has developed phones and improved their designs, which could explain why there are different numbers in some of the rumors we've seen so far.
It’s also hard to say how these increased battery capacities will impact battery life. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to have larger displays this year, up to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively, which could affect the calculations.
As our iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max reviews will tell you, the current models are capable of lasting about a day (or a little more) with general use. It seems the new versions will still need to be charged overnight most of the time.
Apple hasn’t announced a September launch event yet, but that’s the month it typically unveils new iPhones. At the same event, we’re also expected to see the Apple Watch 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 unveiled.
