Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has to be the most anticipated PS5 release this year, unless of course you’re a Final Fantasy fan. Miles and Peter will return in 2023, and they’ll have to take on a whole new crop of villains, including Venom.
While there’s still a lot to learn about the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we’ve heard quite a bit from the developers at Insomniac. There was a short trailer as well, which gave us a glimpse of what we can expect once the game launches.
The trailer was the last proper look at the game we got, but it did show off what Venom will look like in the game. From the look of things, Peter and Miles will be quite the team in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as Miles has come a long way since the events of the last game.
While we wait for Insomniac to reveal more, here’s everything you need to know about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. You’ll find all the latest news and rumors, right here on this page. When news is released, it will be updated.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: release date and platforms
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release in fall 2023 exclusively on PS5, completely skipping PS4.
This was confirmed by a Tweet from PlayStation (Opens in a new tab) (Opens in a new tab). Rumors have it that we’ll be getting a release date soon, so it was great to confirm it. Right now, fall 2023 is the closest we have to a deadline. We’ll update if we hear more.
Although not confirmed, it’s possible we could see Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming to PC at a later date. We’ve seen Sony bring more and more first-party titles to PC lately, with Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales already on the platform. We don’t expect Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to be available on Steam at launch, but a PC version later down the line seems likely.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Trailer
trailer detection
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was revealed with a trailer at the PlayStation showcase in September 2021. The trailer is about a minute and a half long, but it gives us a fair amount of detail. For example, we see both Peter Parker and Miles Morales take on goons, which suggests we might be playing as Spider-Man this time around.
Finally, we get a surprise appearance for Spider-Man villain Venom – an Outworld symbiote with a passion for violence – so we expect he’ll be one of the sequel’s main villains. Unfortunately, there was no gameplay to analyze, but we do briefly see a shot of Peter getting a power-up with his Iron Spider arms, suggesting that the suit’s powers may be returning.
We also hear an ominous voice speaking above the trailer, indicating that Peter and Miles will have another villain to contend with. Based on their talk of looking for a challenge and formidable opponent, we’ve got our money’s worth as Kraven the Hunter – the classic Spider-Man villain in the comics. Check out the trailer below:

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS Store Listing
The PlayStation Store page for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 went live on December 12, 2022, indicating that more details about Insomniac Games’ upcoming web-skating adventure may be shared. Confirmation of a fall 2023 release window eventually followed.
A Twitter user noticed it Wario 64 (Opens in a new tab), a listing dedicated to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 briefly aired on the UK’s PlayStation Store, allowing players to put together a wishlist for the upcoming PS5 game. Collaboration on the cards?
According to rumors, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may include some kind of collaborative element.
After the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PC, data factors revealed what looks like a scrapped multiplayer mode in the game’s files. was found before Twitter (Opens in a new tab) DniweTamp user (via reddit (Opens in a new tab)) The files appear to feature co-op and multiplayer notifications as well as some sort of PvP mode that would pit Miles Morales and Peter Parker against each other in competition.
That’s a pretty exciting thing to pull off, but Insomniac never announced any plans for a multiplayer mode in the first place. Fans are now naturally wondering if we could see the feature make some kind of appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
PlayStation blog post (Opens in a new tab) The announcement for the game explicitly declared the sequel to be a single-player experience, but the reveal trailer relied heavily on Peter fighting alongside Miles, something that could translate well into co-op. While it doesn’t seem impossible that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will actually launch as a single-player experience with a co-op element added at a later date, we can’t be certain of Insomniac’s plans until they’re officially confirmed.
Novel writer Miles Morales joins Insomniac Games
Brittney M. Morris, author of the previous Miles Morales novel, Wings of Fury, has joined Insomniac Games as a writer. Morris announced the news on Twitter, revealing that the first project she’ll be working on is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The addition of Morris to the squad is certainly welcome news. Her narration was well received and her familiarity with the character Miles Morales would certainly be a boon for writing the sequel.

It would be a darker sequel like Empire Strikes Back
It really looks like we’re getting the darker Spider-Man game we’ve all wanted. During his appearance this week on the Marvel Podcast (Opens in a new tab)Bill Roseman, Marvel’s vice president of creative explained, “If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars [A New Hope]Spider-Man 2 is kind of our empire [Strikes Back]. It gets a little darker.”
That definitely makes us happy here at TRG because we’re hoping Insomniac’s Spider-Man will remain his distinct version rather than imitating the more family-friendly version we’re used to in the MCU.
The horror movie star will play Venom
Take to charge PlayStation Blog (Opens in a new tab) After the PlayStation Showcase 2021, Insomniac Games revealed that horror star Tony Todd (who portrays Candyman in the original film series of the same name) will voice Venom.
Todd is a perfect choice for Venom, and he’s sure to provide a sinister voice that will have us hiding behind the couch whenever Venom appears on screen. His casting also supports our hope that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will take on a more terrifying tone, so we’re especially happy to hear he’s involved.
Speaking of the voice actors, Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will reprise their roles as Peter and Miles, respectively.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: What we want to see
Spider-Man from Marvel
The trailer seems to suggest we’ll be playing as Miles and Peter, and the end of Miles’ solo game will back that up but we don’t know yet for sure. We definitely hope we get to play both Spider-Men, as it will give Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 more story and gameplay options (and give us twice the web-action).
The Spider-Duo was seen performing combo moves during the PlayStation Showcase 2021 teaser, suggesting we might be able to play both at the same time at different points in the game, but since it was all just cinematic, there’s no way to do that. . I know well.
Scary side of Spider-Man
With Venom and (potentially) Kraven the Hunter appearing in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac appears to be gearing its story toward the terrifying villains of Spider-Man’s rogue gallery.
Hopefully, Insomniac digs deeper into this and includes many other scary characters like the Lizard, Morbius (or Marvel vampires like Morlun), and maybe even the Jackal. We wouldn’t be surprised if the Green Goblin or Hob Goblin showed up, too.
Human-scientist-turned-lizard Kurt Conners has already appeared in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales suggesting his villainous side could very well be shown in the sequel. The same goes for Norman Osborn who was a major character in Marvel’s first Spider-Man game, so it might not be long before he becomes the Green Goblin.
Based on the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man DLC, it looks like Venom could be Harry Osborn (Norma’s son) in the series. If Harry suffers some terrible fate – apparently at the hands of Spider-Man – this could be what drives Norman Osborn to become a villain.
We’ll admit that Jackal and Morlun make a lot less sense, tying into longer stories like Spider-Man’s Clone Saga and the Spider-Verse deserving of its own dedicated game, but we’ll have to wait and see.
A world outside New York
While Spider-Man is known as a hero in New York City, we’d love to see our wall-crawler take a trip to new locations in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 before the city starts to get a little too lively. While the teaser seems to suggest we’ll definitely be in a New York-like city at some points, thanks to the PS5’s SSD storage and Insomniac’s power it will be able to load into other large locations to explore as well.
One option – especially if they go down the path of terror – might be to include a character like Doctor Strange who can transport us to spooky worlds, or we could see our heroes flee if they find Kraven the Hunter too deadly a threat to deal with. Heck, we could even go visit Silver Sable’s home Symkaria, and the location Peter was visiting in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Sure, New York works great as a setting for Spider-Man games thanks to its looming skyscrapers that are perfect for web-swinging, but considering it’s already featured in both of Insomniac’s previous titles, we’re worried it’ll get boring in the end.
