Leaks reveal some important upgrades in the Pixel Watch 3

New leaks about the Pixel Watch 3 suggest we could be seeing some significant improvements.

The Pixel Watch 2 (pictured) was originally intended to correct the fundamental flaws of the original Pixel Watch, but it looks like Google is ready to go a little further with the Pixel Watch 3.

Citing a source within Google, and confirming previous rumors, Android Authority claims that the Pixel Watch 3 will finally be available in two sizes: a 41mm model and a new, larger 45mm model with a larger 420mAh battery. Both versions will feature the same Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chip found in the Watch 2.

One of the biggest criticisms of the Pixel Watch models so far has been the massive display bezels, but Google may be ready to address that with the Pixel Watch 3. The report claims that the Watch 3 will reduce the bezel size by about 1mm. Sure, it may be less than that, but it’s progress.

Speaking of displays, the Pixel Watch 3's display will apparently be brighter than before, with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, which is double the number found on the Watch 2.

However, one of the biggest additions could be ultra-wideband, or UWB (see our explanation here). After some speculated that this feature would come to the Pixel Watch 2 last year, it could finally be ready to appear on the Watch 3.

With ultra-wideband technology, you'll be able to locate your watch and other items registered to the Google Find My Device network with much greater accuracy. Alternatively (or even additionally), ultra-wideband technology could open up the possibility for the Pixel Watch 3 to use the digital key function of modern cars.

Add in some new colors – black case/obsidian band and silver case/porcelain band for both sizes, silver case/rose quartz and gold case/hazelnut band for the 41mm, and hazel case/hazelnut band for the 45mm – and you have a pretty big upgrade, if this report proves accurate.
