On his podcast, Democratic political strategist James Carville called for a review of Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign spending. Politics is a war room. Thursday.
Harris’ campaign raised more than $1 billion in Democratic support during this year’s election, according to the Associated Press. Despite the impressive financial support she received in the months after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Harris lost the November 5 election to President-elect Donald Trump. Meanwhile, groups linked to Trump and the Republican National Committee raised just over $1.8 billion. Financial Times.
Now Carville wants to know: “Do you know where the money went?”
Carville’s question, which wasn’t directed to anyone in particular, appeared on the latest episode of Carville’s podcast with famed journalist Al Hunt.
Carville has appeared on numerous television networks, sharing his analysis as a prominent figure in Democratic politics and first gained national prominence in 1992 after helping to elect former President Bill Clinton.
During Thursday’s episode Politics is the war room. The Resistance, the anti-Trump political movement, will now have trouble raising money, Carville said, adding that “the damage the 2024 campaign has done to the Democratic brand this decade is almost unfathomable.”
The political strategist demanded that “everything” be investigated.
“We’ve checked the campaign. We’ve checked the future. We’ve checked the Democratic National Committee.” [Democratic National Committee]Carville said.
News week Please contact the Harris Campaign, the White House, and the Democratic National Committee via email, as well as via Future Forward’s online form for comment, by Friday afternoon.
Future Forward is a super PAC that supported Harris’ campaign. The super PAC, along with its affiliated nonprofit group, raised $700 million during this year’s election cycle. Los New York Times Reported in October.
The newspaper reported at the time that Future Forward was “in the midst of an unprecedented spending spree,” spending more on television ads in the final weeks of the presidential race than the Harris and Trump campaigns combined.
It appears the $1 billion raised by Harris and Democrats was not enough to cover their debt, as the AP reported earlier this month that they were still asking donors for more money after the election.
Meanwhile, Politico’s California bureau chief, Christopher Cadelago, tweeted on November 6 that Harris’ campaign was “at least $20 million in debt,” citing two sources familiar with the matter. News week Cadelago was unable to independently verify the report.
According to the Associated Press, the Democratic Party sends daily emails to small donors, those who give hundreds of dollars or less. Meanwhile, Democratic strategist Adrian Hammond of Michigan told the AP they are also asking for help from larger donors.
“The Harris campaign has certainly spent more than it raised and is busy fundraising right now,” Hammond told the AP, adding that the campaign asked him to help with fundraising after Harris disappeared.
