KL Rahul was dropped midway through the India-New Zealand Test series but is expected to open alongside Yashaswi Jaiswal amid uncertainty over Rohit Sharma’s unavailability.
Finally some good news! The sense of desperation ahead of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) has faded, if only slightly. KL Rahul returned to the net after taking a knock on his right elbow on November 15. He is expected to be a replacement for skipper Rohit Sharma at the top, as Rahul was injured during an intrasquad match in India.
Team India chose to simulate the match rather than the match against Australia A or one of their domestic teams. To better prepare for what was about to come, Indian batsmen including KL Rahul were provided with short balls. One ball slipped through Rahul’s defense and hit him. He seemed fine and continued until the pain became unbearable and he was discharged.
Still training at the WACA for India’s first Test against Australia, Rahul returned to the nets. The injury came exactly a week before the start of the Perth Test, and with five days remaining, Rahul looks set to play.
This certainly bodes well for Team India. They have already lost Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill in the match, and as of now, there is no clue about Rohit Sharma’s availability as well. It has been just two days since he welcomed his second child, and it cannot be confirmed now whether Rohit is ready to make a comeback or not.
