iOS 16 to Add Clean Power Charging to iPhones This Year

Clean Power Charging in iOS 16

“Clean power charging aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the iPhone by improving charging times when the network uses cleaner power sources,” says Apple.

We’re still waiting for more details on exactly how this works. Based on Apple’s current interpretation, it appears that iOS 16 will attempt to offload the iPhone to a time when power grids are less restrictive and provide more clean power capacity. Notably, this comes amid concerns about power grid capacity in states such as Texas and California.

This will be one of the many charging optimization features that Apple has added to iOS and iPhone over the past several years. Notably, iPhone introduces Enhanced Battery Charging designed to reduce battery wear and improve battery life. This is done by reducing the time the iPhone spends fully charged.

Apple’s press release also confirms that the shared photo library on iCloud will be launched later this year, along with features including Live Activities and support for the Matter standard in the Home app. We’re still waiting for features like Apple Pay Later and the new Freeform app that comes with iPadOS 16.
