How to install Discord on Steam Deck

If you have a Steam Deck or are looking to pick one up, you’ll know that it’s not just a portable game console, but technically a mini PC that runs SteamOS, which is based on Arch Linux. Valve has not closed off access to this system. You can do whatever you want with it as if it were your own computer, and that includes installing your own software or even an operating system.

This not only means that you can play games and multitask, but you can use Discord and play games at the same time. If you like to play games with friends online, Discord is a great way to make a call and share with others. I use it a lot when playing games like rain danger 2, which is also available on Steam Deck. It is not difficult to set up, and you can follow our guide on how to get started.

It will also work with a wired or Bluetooth microphone, but be sure to change your Discord’s input and output devices before doing so.

Discord on Steam Deck works surprisingly well

Given that Steam Deck is essentially a small computer, I think it should come as no surprise how well Discord does on it. I managed to make a call to a friend and play rain danger 2 Without any problems, and the game sound was very loud. We can hear each other just fine. For games that work well in manual mode, playing on Steam Deck and joining a Discord call is a great way to play.
