Although the Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 are easy to handle, they are not the epitome of one-handed devices; Both have tall screens that force some subtle movement when you try to pull down the Galaxy Fold or Flip’s notification cover. This guide will take you through a feature that allows you to use a quick trick to pull those notifications down.
The feature in question is an interesting one. Instead of touching the screen and swiping down from the top to find your alerts, the Galaxy Fold and Flip let you swipe up the fingerprint sensor. Doing so will pull the shade down as normal, making the device a little easier to use in some circumstances. This feature is available on all Galaxy Fold and Flip devices.
Here’s how to activate it:
- On the fold or flip, head over to Settings by scrolling down from the Home screen and tapping on the Settings cog.
- Head to advanced features.
- Tap on movements and gestures.
- Find Finger sensor gestures and tap on it.
- Toggle open the notification panel.
To give it a shot, swipe down on the fingerprint sensor with your thumb while pressing Flip or Fold. As long as the phone is unlocked, you should see the notification shade pull down on the Galaxy Flip or Fold.
This feature comes in handy when using the Flip with one hand, or even the fold – if you dare. Although it is very useful, it may not be for everyone.
Disadvantages of the finger sensor gesture
As far as the benefits of this feature go, one-handed use is the easiest example I can think of. However, there is a small downside to continuing this gesture.
Under normal circumstances, you may find that the Galaxy Fold or Flip notification shade will appear randomly. This is not necessarily the case, instead, facing the sensor when using the device will trigger your notifications. Really, any kind of touch on the sensor could trigger it.
This leads to a lot of accidental use, as our experience has been. However, if you’re using a case with a fold or flip, you probably don’t ignore the sensor that often.
This feature is turned off by default for some reason; It will likely be a useful shortcut for some, although others may find it more difficult than anything else. Give it a try and see if it helps you use your phone easier. Either way, you have to admit it’s a great little trick.
