HARMAN Ready Care helps you drive smarter

A new artificial intelligence system has been revealed in the car Harman International This week in a new form Ready care the system. Capable of detecting driver behaviors and helping you drive smarter using context and interventions when needed to provide a safer environment for drivers. Ready Care consists of a suite of automotive solutions including cognitive distraction, stress-free steering, and customized comfort that can be combined or used independently according to your needs, reducing driver fatigue and improving safety on the road, says HARMAN.

HARMAN designed the Ready Care service to measure driver eye activity and mental state using a universal infrared shutter camera with active illumination that monitors the driver’s face in low and high light environments. Using facial expressions, eye gaze, eyelid openings and more, the system creates a catalog of real-time data to enable it to alert drivers when certain conditions arise. The system is compatible with a number of navigation engines and is capable of providing stress-free routing thanks to its ability to detect stress factors in real time such as traffic jams and react accordingly.

“Safety remains a major concern for consumers when considering the purchase of a new vehicle, and now, with Ready Care, OEMs can improve vehicle safety in a new and important way,” said Armin Brommersberger, senior vice president of automotive product management at Harman International. “Ready Care is essentially a co-pilot, figuring out when distractions can turn into dangerous situations and stepping in to avoid them. For the first time, a vehicle can, in a sense, know what a driver is thinking; this is a game-changer. We are very proud and excited about the impact that Ready Care will make it happen to drivers, passengers, and everyone on the road.”

“Because all trips and drivers are unique, Ready Care leverages advanced machine learning technology to provide customized intervention strategies tailored to the individual and their driving experience. Ready Care offers closed-loop interventions via the SDK, allowing OEMs and third parties to integrate any feature or in-vehicle function—such as HVAC control, media content and volume, or seat sensors—in a Ready Care solution. One example is the advanced technologies offered by Gentherm, the global market leader for innovative thermal management and aerodynamic comfort technologies for the automotive industry.”
