Galaxy Watch 5 October update rolling out to cellular models

Samsung is rolling out another update to its latest Wear OS smartwatch, but there isn’t much new. The Galaxy Watch 5 series is getting the October 2022 update but only on select models so far.

The Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, now released, have introduced the October 2022 security patch via a remote update. The update doesn’t bring anything else Samsung reveals, simply stating the change:

The current software update provides the latest Android security patch for your device.

Notably, this update appears to be rolling out to cellular models right now, with Verizon Wireless providing an update notification on its website. This isn’t the first time in recent memory that the Galaxy Watch 5 only catches an update on its Verizon variant, but it’s interesting to see this pattern continue.

Samsung is supposed to bring this same update to the Galaxy Watch 5 series on other network providers as well as standard Wi-Fi/Bluetooth models in due course. These watches are still in the July 2022 security patch and haven’t seen any noticeable updates in some time.
