The Cupertino company unveiled the Apple Watch Series 8 in September 2022. This welcome addition to the Apple Watch line offers some decent offerings — while retaining the same design as its predecessor. Perhaps the biggest differences between the Series 7 and Series 8 are the car accident detection and the body temperature monitor. The first automatically contacts emergency services when it detects a malfunction. Meanwhile, the latter helps non-males to monitor their reproductive health. Series 8 users also benefit from the more efficient Bluetooth 5.3 technology. If you’re planning to buy an Apple Watch Series 8, you must be wondering – does it support 5G networks and eSIM connectivity? Here’s everything you need to know about these specials.
No 5G support on Apple Watch Series 8
Unfortunately for fans of high-speed internet, the Apple Watch Series 8 does just that Not 5G networks support. You will only get the usual LTE/4G support. This is assuming you buy the cellular model, of course. Given 5G’s significant battery drain, it makes sense that Apple would rule out this upgrade from its wearables. The Apple Watch already has a small battery, and connectivity to 5G networks is sure to make battery life annoyingly short. Not to mention that 4G is already fast enough to perform internet-related tasks on the Apple Watch. This usually includes text messages, music streaming, and answering FaceTime audio calls. All of the above tasks are working fine on LTE.
But you get eSIM support
As you may have guessed, the Apple Watch Series 8 does not have a physical SIM card slot. So if you purchase a cellular model, it already includes an eSIM. You can activate a compatible eSIM plan for texting, calling, and using 4G when your phone is not around. Though, it should be noted that the effective use of cellular functions on the Apple Watch drains its battery significantly.
Apple Watch Series 8 offers car accident detection, a body temperature monitor, and more. It packs an Apple S8 chip and runs watchOS 9.
