Disney Remasters Sega Genesis Gargoyles

Fans of Disney classics of the mid-’90s got a surprise treat this week. During a recent gaming show, the company revealed that it was re-mastering the Gargoyles. Along with Aladdin and The Lion King, the 1995 Sega Genesis release is one of the highlights of Disney’s catalog of games.

If you somehow missed playing this game back in the day, it is based on the animated series of the same name. Gargoyles initially aired between 1994 and 1997. While it was a modest success at the time, it has since become something of a cult classic thanks to its compelling story and great soundtrack featuring Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis.

Empty Clip Studios, who you may know for his work on Dead Island Retro Revenge, is re-mastering the game for modern consoles and PCs. The 1995 original was hailed as one of the best looking games in the Genesis library. It also had a soundtrack for Michael Giacchino, who later went on to work in The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Lost, and Rogue One, among plenty of other high-profile films and TV shows. Unfortunately, there’s no release date for the editor yet, but we’ll probably get that info soon.
