Mouth Mercy is back – and this time it has brought back the legend of the X-Men franchise, with Hugh Jackman officially confirmed to reprise the role of Wolverine in the next Deadpool movie.
In real Deadpool fashion, a video posted by Reynolds’ official Twitter (Opens in a new tab) The account contains the actor casting a shadow over the character’s portrayal in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. With references to a mercenary’s mouth shut and an apology for losing D23, Reynolds ends the video by asking Jackman if he’d like to return as Wolverine, to which the Australian actor carelessly replied “Yes, sure.”
Jackman’s return is a nice surprise for fans, as he hung claws after Logan 2017 (Opens in a new tab). The actor has been portraying Wolverine in films since the 2000’s X-Men, and many considered Logan a great farewell to both the character and Jackman’s engagement. Regardless, fans of both characters will finally be able to see them compete on the big screen (ignore the 2009 shoot, of course).

Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on Free Guy, and with Jackman on Real Steel 2011, and is set to arrive on September 6, 2024. That date appears to be the start of MCU Phase 6, with Phase 5 ending in July 2024 with Thunderbolts.
It’s been 30 long years…
Interestingly, the year 2024 also marks the 30th anniversary when the characters first met in Wolverine #88. Since 1994, Deadpool and Wolverine have been competing once again, with their first meeting involving a large amount of mercenary-fired bullets .
When X-Men Origins: Wolverine hit cinemas, fans of the duo were baffled by the portrayal of Deadpool. Although Reynolds played it, the character was incredibly faint compared to what Deadpool fans knew. However, Reynolds reclaimed the character in 2016’s Deadpool, where the solo character’s outing was sufficiently messy, humorous, and accurate for what fans know from the comics.
