Compact3566 Raspberry Pi clone – geeky tools

A new mini computer inspired by the Pi was revealed this week in the form of the Compact3566 single board computer. The Raspberry Pi clone mini PC is equipped with 8GB LPDDR4 and 128GB eMMC flash drives, along with Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 5, 4 USB 3.0/2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0 output, MIPI DSI and CSI interfaces.

As with the Raspberry Pi, the Compact3566 also features a 40-pin GPIO header with a few small additions in the form of an M.2 socket for storage, an RTC with battery, and a built-in microphone.

Compact 3566 is a credit card sized single tablet (SBC) based on the Rockchip RK3566 quad-core Cortex-A55 processor designed for IoT devices, such as home security system, facial recognition robot, drones and HMI. The micro-computing platform contains a high-performance, low-power processor with USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 2.4G/5G WiFi, M.2, a micro-SD card slot, a MIPI CSI camera connector, MIPI DSI (or LVDS), and an HDMI port that supports 4K displays.”

Compact3566 Microcomputer Specifications

  • SoC – Rockchip RK3566 quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 @ up to 1.8 GHz with ARM Mali-G52 2EE GPU with OpenGL ES 1.1 / 2.0 / 3.2 support. OpenCL 2.0. Vulkan 1.1, 0.8 TOPS NPU
  • System Memory – 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GB LPDDR4 / LPDDR4X
  • storage
    • 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB eMMC flash
    • M.2 socket for SSD (Note: The specification says “PCIe 2.0 NVMe SSD”, but the image below reads “SATA SSD”, both are theoretically possible since it is powered by the processor. The socket seems only suitable for an M.2 2240 SSD).
