Apple Watch Ultra battery capacity and LTE effect

The new Apple Watch Ultra is the biggest change Apple has made to the Apple Watch since its original release. With an all-new design, focus on durability and rugged sports, and multi-day battery life, the Apple Watch Ultra is likely to impress when it officially launches later this month.

Ahead of this launch, new regulatory filings revealed more Apple Watch Ultra specifications. The Apple product page for the Apple Watch Ultra also mentions a warning with a 36-hour prompt.

Apple Watch Battery Capacity Details

As I mentioned for the first time before MySmartPrice, The highlight of these filings is additional information about the battery’s size. According to regulatory instructions, the Apple Watch Ultra has a battery that is 76% larger than the battery inside the 45mm Apple Watch Series 8 and 92% larger than the 41mm.

This is roughly consistent with Apple’s claim that the Apple Watch Ultra can last 36 hours on a charge, which is double what the Apple Watch Series 8 can last a charge. Here are the full details:

  • Apple Watch SE 40mm: 245 mAh
  • Apple Watch SE 44mm: 296 mAh
  • Apple Watch Series 8 41mm: 282 mAh
    • Apple Watch Series 7 41mm: 284mAh
  • Apple Watch Series 8 45mm: 308 mAh
    • Apple Watch Series 7 45mm: 398 mAh
  • Apple Watch Ultra 49mm: 542 mAh

Apple Watch Ultra battery life with LTE

Meanwhile, there’s an interesting tip worth noting regarding the realistic battery life of the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple announces that you can get up to 36 hours of battery life from the Apple Watch Ultra. As the Apple Watch Ultra’s Product Features page says, you’ll see a significant reduction in battery life while using LTE.

Apple says the Apple Watch Ultra can last up to 18 hours on a single charge when connected to LTE:

Cellular built into every Apple Watch Ultra. With the service plan, you can stay connected with up to 18 hours of all-day LTE battery life. Works almost anywhere with international roaming.

Apple says its claim of 36 hours of battery life is based on a total of eight hours of LTE connectivity and 28 hours of connecting to an iPhone via Bluetooth over the course of 36 hours.

Each Apple Watch model has a shorter battery life when used only on LTE instead of paired with a nearby iPhone via Bluetooth. Interestingly, Apple doesn’t reveal battery life details for the Apple Watch Series 8 when it’s connected to LTE only.

Instead, Apple says its 18-hour order for the Apple Watch Series 8 is based on a total of four hours of LTE connectivity and 14 hours of Bluetooth connectivity to an iPhone over the course of the 18 hours.
