Apple had had a Mac Pro featuring the M1 Apple silicon chip ready to ship and launch to customers “months ago,” but eventually decided to wait for the “M2 Extreme” Mac Pro later this year, Bloomberg Mark Gorman revealed.
In an interview with YouTuber Max Tech, Gurman said that Apple has likely held off the M1 Mac Pro to wait for the more powerful and powerful version with the “M2 Extreme” chip set to launch later this year. Gurman expects Apple’s high-end silicon Mac Pro to be previewed later this year with a launch in early 2023. Gurman notes that Apple originally planned to announce the Mac Pro during this year’s WWDC but those plans clearly didn’t work out.
In the interview, Gorman also said he did not expect a redesign of the Mac mini, which previous rumors suggested could be redesigned. Gurman points to the similarities between Mac mini and Mac Studio, saying that the Mac mini update will be just a spec bump for the M2 chip.
