Samsung has now started rolling out the Android 12 update for the affordable Galaxy Tab A8 tablet in select European regions.
Despite the fact that Android 13 is already available for Pixel phones and the One UI 5.0 beta is in full swing, the LTE versions of the Galaxy Tab A8 were getting the stable Android 12 release last year. This budget tablet was released back in January 2022, and shipped with shocking Android 11 pre-installed. For $229, it seems like a fairly solid package that opposes older OS builds.
As reported by SamMobile, the OTA update is now rolling out in large parts of Europe including Austria, Bulgaria, Baltic region, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Nordic countries, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Android 12 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 comes with One UI 4.0 instead of the latest version 4.1 found in the Galaxy S22 series. There aren’t a lot of drastic changes to the interface, but there are plenty of unofficial updates to improve One UI on this cheap Android tablet.
Material You and Dynamic Color are included, making your device a theme based on the system wallpaper. There’s also improved privacy controls with new microphone and camera access indicators, plus a lot more you can see in the full hands-on below. It should be noted that since this is a tablet and not a smartphone, some features may be omitted.
Android 12 for Galaxy Tab A8 provides firmware version X205XXU1BVI6, which should arrive via an OTA update in the coming weeks in the regions mentioned above. To check if an OTA update is pending, head to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
