Rick and Maggie share a similar temper, which has led to a wonderful friendship over the years. However, while they share a love affair, their similar minds often lead Rick and Maggie to push each other down similar dark paths, often taking things too far when left unchecked.

As his oldest child, Carl was the main person Rick fought for when the apocalypse began. However, transformed after Carl’s death, Rick pushes himself to accept his son’s dream of a peaceful end to the Savior’s War, sparing Negan’s life, and allowing the surviving Saviors to merge into the Alliance of Communities.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan portrays Negan, the main antagonist in seasons six, seven, and eight of the series. Negan and his saviors go to war with Rick’s group during this time, destroying nearly everything they’ve built in previous seasons. Despite his evils, Negan has undergone an arc of salvation in recent years, becoming an important member of the core group.
Negan pushed Rick into new, darker depths than before, shattering his confidence and nearly killing him on multiple occasions. However, with this enemy, Rick is finally able to prove his righteousness in the end, sparing Negan’s life and establishing himself as a hero forever.

Shane Walsh was a major cast member in the first two seasons of Jon Berthal the walking Dead. Shane starts out as Rick’s best friend but slowly begins to hate him when it becomes clear that Laurie prefers her husband over him. Shane was killed at the end of season two after trying to kill Rick.
For Rick, Shane served as a cautionary example not to trust anyone implicitly. Although Rick eventually overcame this faulty line of reasoning, it would take extraordinary heroism from his peers to overcome Shane’s betrayal. However, it wouldn’t really be the same, a little piece of Rick’s humanity was lost forever when he was forced to kill the man who was once his best friend.
